Major transit milestones, sold-out fitness events, and another major development moving through city approvals. Here’s what happened in our favourite neighbourhood this summer.

False Creek Flats keeps proving it’s one of Vancouver’s smartest bets for urban living. While other neighbourhoods talk about “future potential,” we’re watching concrete progress happen right outside our windows. The third quarter of 2025 brought the kind of developments that actually matter—better transit connections, thriving community events, and serious investment in our area’s future.

Here’s what went down between July and September that affects your daily life in False Creek Flats.

The Transit Game-Changer: Emily Carr Station Takes Shape

Tracks Are Done (Finally!) On The New Arterial Skytrain Route

The big news everyone’s been waiting for: the skytrain tracks connecting the new Emily Carr station at Great Northern Way to Broadway/Commercial are officially complete. This isn’t just another construction milestone—this is the piece that connects False Creek Flats directly to UBC, downtown Vancouver, Mount Pleasant, Cambie, and South Granville areas along the Broadway Subway Line.

Those Massive Columns Mean Business

You’ve probably noticed the impressive 6-meter high columns going up at the Emily Carr station site. These aren’t just for show—they’re marking serious progress on the actual station building. Once this station opens, False Creek Flats residents will have rapid transit access that makes most of Vancouver feel like it’s next door.

Bottom line: Your commute options are about to get dramatically better.

Community Events That Actually Brought People Together

Flats Fest: September 6th 2025 Was A Success!

Flats Fest proved False Creek Flats has the community spirit to match its urban development. The September 6th event brought together residents, local businesses, and visitors for genuine neighbourhood connection—not the forced “community building” you see in other developments.

Events like this matter because they show False Creek Flats isn’t just a place to live—it’s a place people want to call home.

The Hyrox Fitness Phenomenon Takes Over

CrossfitBC expanded into Hyrox training classes, and the response was immediate. The Hyrox PFT event at the end of August saw all 96 spots sold out completely. That’s not just impressive—that’s proof False Creek Flats attracts Vancouver’s most active residents.

The September 20th Hyrox Partner Half-Sim event also drew strong participation, continuing the momentum. As one of Vancouver’s original CrossFit™ affiliates (established in 2008), CrossfitBC has been our neighborhood’s fitness anchor for over 17 years. Under new ownership by Dai and Christie, they’re expanding their offerings while maintaining the community-focused approach that makes False Creek Flats special.

What this means: More Hyrox events are coming. Keep an eye out if you want in on Vancouver’s hottest fitness trend.

Major Development News: Onni’s Big Plans

The 375 E 1st Avenue Project Aims For a Vibrant Growth in East Vancouver

Onni Group’s massive mixed-use project at 375 E 1st Avenue hit a major milestone with their formal rezoning application moving through city approvals. This isn’t just another condo tower—it’s a four-tower development that will include (as of September 2025, subject to change):

  • 639 strata condo units
  • 485 rental units
  • 225 hotel rooms
  • 32 social housing units
  • Commercial and cultural space
  • Approximately 129,207 square feet of office space
  • 43,000 square feet of retail

The office component has already begun pre-leasing, which tells you everything about confidence in False Creek Flats as a business destination.

Reality check: This project is still working through city approvals, not under construction yet. But when it happens, it’ll be transformative for our neighbourhood’s live-work-play possibilities.

Infrastructure Improvements You Can Actually Use

Archetype Building + New Bike Path

The Archetype development (by QuadReal Property Group) is approaching completion, adding more housing, retail and office options to our growing neighbourhood. More importantly for daily life: the new bike path along E 1st Avenue is almost done and ready to use.

This isn’t just about cycling—it’s about connectivity. Better bike infrastructure makes False Creek Flats more accessible and supports the car-free lifestyle many residents prefer.

Q3 2025: Mission Accomplished

Not bad for three months of progress. The transit connections are advancing, the community events are thriving, and the development pipeline keeps moving. False Creek Flats is hitting its stride as a neighborhood that delivers on both urban convenience and community spirit.

More updates coming as Q4 unfolds.
